Futu releases its first report on female investing trend in town, revealing investment strategies in all ages Records fivefold female investor growth y-o-y, and 20% of them made over 50% returns

Futu Holdings Limited (「Futu」 or the 「Company」) (Nasdaq: FUTU), a leading tech-driven online brokerage and wealth management platform, announces key insights derived from client investment transaction data of Hong Kong female between November 30, 2020 and May 30, 2021. The report aims to identify and analyze the investment trends of Futu Hong Kong’s female investors in all ages through their investment portfolios, enabling the market to capture opportunities from the female investors.  

Financial confidence promotes across female investors, and more young female embarks on early investment journey

An increasing number of young women start their investment journey at an earlier age, suggesting an increasing drive to achieve financial independence. The figures of Futu female clients’ distribution indicate that most of the clients are post-80s and post-90s generation, of which 40% are post-90s generation and 28% are post-80s generation. Post-00s generation female investors account for 2% of the total. Propelled by the proliferation of online brokerages and social trading, Hong Kong female have developed a strong sense of financial independence and wealth management. 

Preference for investing in stocks and derivatives: Nearly 20% of female well perform in their investment, achieved over 50% return rate

Female investors prefer traditional investment products: Over 90% of Futu female investors across all age groups have invested in common stocks over investment in derivatives and funds. The figures suggested that female investors’ risk tolerance decrease with their age. For example, post-70s and older female investors tend to invest in funds, while post-90s female investors are more risk-seeking than other female and prefer to invest in derivative products with greater volatility.  From a returns perspective, the performance of female investors should not be underestimated. The report indicated that nearly 20% of profitable female investors reached over 50% return rate, and post-00s female investors performed the best in terms of earning a high rate of returns. 11.5% of in-profit female have achieved a return rate of more than 100%, implying their position doubled.

Futu report found that Post-70s generation and older female tend to invest in the Hong Kong stock market, 58% of their transactions are from Hong Kong stock market. Post-00s and post-90s female investors are more keen on trading in the U.S. stock market, 92% and 91% of their transaction amounts are from the U.S. stocks trading respectively. In comparison to other age groups, the post-80s generation has similar frequency on trading both Hong Kong stocks and the U.S. stocks, but 88% of the transactions are still concentrated in the U.S. stock market, which indicated that they have distributed larger amount of money to trade in the U.S. market. Amongst the women’s top 10 traded stocks, seven of them are the US stocks including Tesla Inc, which topped the list, with Futu Holdings Limited and GamStop Corp the second and third respectively. Female investors were also keenly invested in NIO Inc, Xiaomi Corp, AMC, Palantir Technologies Inc, GCL-POLY, Apple and Alibaba.
